Proof of address is evidence connecting your legal name to a current residential address. The accepted document types, issue-date window, and verification level vary, so use the live instructions for your account.

Documents that may be accepted

Common categories include a recent utility bill, official bank statement, government residence document, tax document, or qualifying tenancy agreement. An identity document showing a full residential address may also be accepted by some providers.

Bybit's current individual KYC guidance lists these categories for proof of address and says most address documents must be dated within the previous three months. That rule is provider-specific and can change.

Check the document before uploading

The document should show the full legal name, complete residential address, issuer, and required date. Details should be readable and consistent with the identity and address entered in the exchange account.

  • Accepted document category
  • Applicant's full legal name
  • Full residential address rather than only a P.O. box
  • Visible issuer and document date
  • Date inside the provider's permitted window
  • Clear, complete, unedited image or file

Why proof of address is rejected

Common problems include an old document, partial address, name mismatch, unsupported bill type, transaction slip instead of a statement, cropped image, unreadable text, or an address that differs from the account record.

Bybit currently excludes several items, including mobile phone statements, medical bills, insurance documents, bank transaction slips, and handwritten receipts. Another provider may use a different list, so do not treat one exchange's examples as universal.

Handle address evidence carefully

Upload the minimum document requested through the official authenticated flow. Avoid posting it in public forums or sending it to an unsolicited support contact. Redact information only when the provider explicitly permits redaction; otherwise alteration may cause rejection.

If you recently moved or your official records are inconsistent, use the provider's update or support process. Do not invent an address, edit a document, or use another person's statement.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a bank statement as proof of address?

Often, but it must meet the provider's current requirements for name, residential address, issuer, date, and file format. A transaction receipt may not qualify.

How recent must proof of address be?

The window varies. Bybit currently says most proof-of-address documents must be dated within the last three months. Check the rule shown in your exchange account.

Can I edit or redact a proof-of-address document?

Only if the official instructions permit it. Cropping, editing, hiding required details, or changing information can lead to rejection and may violate provider rules.
