The usual identity information

A personal account flow may request your legal name, date of birth, nationality or residence, and a government-issued proof of identity. The accepted document list is not universal.

Binance currently says most users may be offered a passport, identity card, or driver's license, depending on the country. Bybit currently lists passports, identity cards, residence permits, and driving licenses that contain required identity details. Use only the options displayed for your account.

What makes an identity document usable

Use your own valid, unexpired original document. Names, dates, and document numbers should match the information entered in the account. Images generally need to be clear, complete, unedited, and free of glare or obstruction.

  • Document type is accepted for the selected country
  • All required sides and edges are visible
  • Text and photograph are readable
  • Legal details match the account
  • Document has not expired
  • No filters, edits, or screenshots unless expressly permitted

Other checks you may encounter

The provider may require a live selfie or liveness check to compare the applicant with the document. A higher verification level or particular payment channel may also request proof of address or additional source information.

Bybit currently describes proof of identity at its Standard level and proof of address at its Advanced level. Binance notes that regional or payment-channel requirements can affect the verification level. These structures can change.

Submit documents more safely

Begin from the exchange's known official domain or app. Review the privacy notice, verify the account is eligible in your location, and upload only through the authenticated verification screen.

Never give a referral publisher, social-media contact, or supposed recovery agent your ID images, password, two-factor code, seed phrase, or private key. Do not use another person's identity to bypass a failed or restricted application.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a driver's license for crypto exchange KYC?

Possibly. Binance and Bybit currently include a driver's license among options for some users, but accepted documents vary by country and account. Follow the live document list.

Can I use a screenshot or scanned ID?

Do not assume so. Bybit currently says it accepts physical documents and rejects e-copies or scans. Follow the exact capture and upload method shown by your provider.

Will I need proof of address?

You may. It can depend on the verification level, product, region, payment method, and review. Prepare it only if the official flow requests it.
