Account eligibility

How Old Do You Have to Be to Use a Crypto Exchange?

Many personal crypto exchange services require an adult account holder, but the exact minimum age and available products depend on the provider, legal entity, country, and current terms. Verify eligibility before registration.

Do not assume one global age rule

A platform may operate through different legal entities and product terms in different regions. A minimum age shown for one service does not prove that every account or product is available where you live.

Bybit's current individual KYC guidance identifies being under 18 as a reason a profile may violate its terms. Other exchanges and regional services may apply different eligibility language, so read the terms presented for your location.

How age is checked

Identity verification commonly compares the date of birth entered during registration with a government-issued document. A live facial check may also be part of the process.

Using a false birth date, edited document, or another person's identity can cause rejection or restriction and may violate the provider's terms. An account should not be created in someone else's name for your own use.

Age eligibility is only the first check

Meeting a minimum age does not guarantee account approval or access to every feature. Country restrictions, residency, identity documents, sanctions screening, payment-method rules, and product-specific requirements can still apply.

  • Minimum age in the current regional terms
  • Supported country and legal entity
  • Accepted proof of identity
  • Products permitted for the account
  • Payment method ownership rules
  • Tax and recordkeeping responsibilities

What a younger learner can do safely

Learn how exchanges, wallets, fees, custody, scams, and market risk work without attempting to bypass an age restriction. Educational access is different from opening or controlling a financial account.

Do not hand money or identity documents to an online stranger who offers to create an account. Parents or guardians should seek provider-specific legal and account guidance rather than assuming an adult account can be informally shared.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can a 16-year-old open a crypto exchange account?

Do not assume so. Many services require an adult account holder; Bybit currently identifies under-18 status as a terms violation. Check the exact provider and regional terms.

Can I use my parent's ID for crypto exchange KYC?

No. Do not use another person's identity for an account you control. The account information, identity documents, and actual user should comply with the provider's rules.

Does being 18 guarantee exchange access?

No. Location, residency, document support, product restrictions, account review, and other eligibility rules still apply.
